Description:

Volunteer Opportunity:   Step Up Tutoring is seeking volunteers to provide virtual 1-on-1 tutoring to 2nd--6th grade students from underserved communities to help build fundamental math skills and literacy skills to provide support and encouragement.

All tutoring will take place virtually! All you need is a computer and internet access. No prior tutoring experience is needed. Responsibilities: Tutor 1-on-1 twice a week via an online video platform; each session is 45 minutes. All training you will need to begin volunteering is done through online, self-paced modules. You will focus on building fundamental math and literacy skills using an evidence-based online program. 

There are both  structured and flexible schedules available.  We request a minimum commitment of 12 weeks. 

Requirements: Must be 16 or over. Must reside in the US.  There will be a mandatory background check. You will need access to the internet and a computer or tablet with a camera and microphone.

About Us: Step Up Tutoring is a California based non-profit that provides high-impact tutoring to help close the opportunity gap. We are dedicated to supporting elementary school students from 3rd to 6th grade by pairing adults and high school students (16+) with students to volunteer their time as virtual math tutors. Our program offers flexibility, allowing volunteers to contribute from home at their convenience, and requires no prior tutoring experience as we provide all necessary training. This setup has proven to be incredibly rewarding for both our tutors and students, fostering meaningful connections and impactful learning experiences. We have served over 3000 students enrolled with over 100,000+ hours of free tutoring and we have a partnership with over 100 schools including LAUSD and KIPP SoCal.

Our mission is to drive student success by providing virtual high-impact tutoring and mentorship to elementary and middle school students in under-resourced communities. We recruit, train, and support mission-driven high-value tutors to provide individualized academic support and boost habits of success. High-impact tutoring is among the most effective educational interventions and can result in 3-15 months of learning gains, larger than 85% of interventions studied. We focus on three key outcomes: improve academic gains, increase academic confidence, and foster positive relationships between students and tutors.
